Mom Accused of Stealing School Fundraiser Cash

Mount Pleasant police say a 32-year-old mother took the money her daughters earned by selling items door-to-door for their school and kept it for herself.

A Racine woman is accused of stealing money from a middle school fundraiser where her daughters went door-to-door selling items.

Miranda Meyers, 32, was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Thursday with four counts of theft. If convicted, she faces up to three years in prison and $40,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, on Dec. 9, Mount Pleasant police officers were called to a home in the 5400 block of Norman Street after a man reported he purchased pizzas for a Gilmore Middle School fundraiser this fall and never received the items. People at other homes in the area reported the same thing, saying two young girls were selling the items door-to-door and they paid with checks written out to Meyers.

Police say the two girls were able to sell about $1,400 in items, however, school officials said they never handed in order forms despite the girls saying they were able to sell a lot for the fundraiser. The girls told school authorities their mom told them they missed the deadline to hand in the order forms, but she got clearance from school staff to hand them in at a later date.

During their interview with her, police say Meyers told them she handed in the order forms late and got the items a week later than the others were delivered. She said she took them to a friend’s house in Racine. She also told officers that $300 in items were missing and she was trying to figure out the problem.

Meyers was also charged with one count of possession of narcotic drugs after police were called to a home in the 5500 block of Dorset Avenue after her mother found heroin and syringes in her purse. Meyers denied knowing the drugs were in there, saying she knew who put them there but refused to say whom.

Meyers is currently being held in Racine County Jail on a $1,000 signature bond while awaiting trial.

The State requires drivers to obtain training and pass written and demonstrated driving skills prior to issuing a license to operate a motor vehicle.

Isn't it time to license mothers?

What will be final societal cost of this irresponsible woman's actions? It's insane that the paper is filled with stories like this - The societal costs incurred by these people is going to end in Societal collapse - it's time for common sense reform - and license and limit breeding to the prepared and responsible.

I love it when the news gets their hands on information, but then puts the wrong information out there for everyone to read. Anything to get a headline, I guess. What a world.

Sarah - what is incorrect about this story and how is it that you would know that it is wrong? Your probably one of her drug buddies. This is a sick person. I agree with Richard.
