Looking for a Good Fish Fry?
Check out these spots — declared the best by thousands of Patch readers — in the Milwaukee area.
Patch readers (and fish fry connoisseurs) throughout the Milwaukee area cast thousands of votes over the past five days, helping us determine some of the best fish fry spots in the area. This is the first in a series of stories where Patch will ask readers to give their takes on favorite local businesses and places.
The winners of the best fish fry contests were determined over the course of a week, from more than 20,000 votes cast, 145 comments left, 37 restaurant reviews and 100 Facebook Likes or Recommends.
Here's a roundup of the winners:
- DeRango the Pizza King and Steak House took top honors in the contest in Caledonia, Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant.
- The Cellar won the contest in Oak Creek.
- A church, St. Alphonsus in Greendale, was declared the best fish fry in Greendale and Greenfield. They don't have a fry every Friday, so be sure to check their schedule if you want to check it out.
- Muskego Patch readers cast more than 1,000 votes, and pushed newcomer Sauced Restaurant into the lead.
- Master Z's won the contest on Waukesha Patch.
- Rich's Bar and Restaurant pulled ahead at the last minute in the Sussex-Menomonee Falls contest.
- The Silver Spur won the contest on Brookfield Patch, in another battle that went to the end. More than 2,000 votes were lodged there between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m., pushing Silver Spur ahead of The Red Mill.
- Cranky Al's beat the competition in Wauwatosa, garnering more votes than all other contenders put together.
- In the North Shore, readers chose Jack Pandl's Whitefish Bay Inn as the best fish fry.
- In Port Washington, The Patio was declared the winning fish fry.

For a quick and very good fish fry, you can't beat Sendiks in Bayside on fridays. Love their beer battered cod. Get the tartar sauce..Though, not the pre-packaged one, but what they make. So very good and you're in & out before you know it.

What might be a very interesting article is one about restaurants that do NOT run a short menu during fish fry Friday evenings.
I do enjoy the fish fry, particularly at Victors, Firehouse, and Galiotos, but sometimes, you're free on a Friday and want to go to a place running a full menu.

if your looking for a giid homemade style fish fry you should check out country squire supper club in muskego. Its a very friendly atmosphere and there fish fry is to die for!! The cod and perch are lightly breaded and come with either homemand thin and crispy potato pancakes fries or both homemade clowslaw and himemade tartersauce and rye bread. They also offer different varities of fish and the whole menu is open to order off of. The dinners come with homemade soup and salad bar. I highly reccommend the country squire in muskego to whoever is looking for an outstanding reasonable dinner!!

I still love Cliffords in Hales Corners. All you can eat fish, fries, rolls, etc. And since we went smoke free, it's actually fun to go there.

Kiss the Cook Cafe in Racine has an impressive Fish Fry. I prefer the Cod, but many like the Admiral Platter that includes Walleye, Perch, Cod, Shrimp, and Clam Strips.

Friends of my husband own Jackson's Blue Ribbon on 113th and Bluemound. And we have been there many times to eat. Their fish fry is really good, nice portions and choices of sides too. Great service!

Always liked Silver Spring House but think they've slipped in the past few years. Really like Oakcrest Tavern on Oakland in Shorewood.

Most all you can eats should be called all you can keep down. If you do end up at a all you can keep down dress light because if you get stuck between a couple of those 350# 400# it's like being next to a wood stove running at full bore . enjoy
