How did we get here? Why as a nation are we talking about what we can cut from people instead of what we need to grow our economy?
There is one man primarily responsible for leading our national discussion in the wrong direction- Paul Ryan. He has championed selfishness among the wealthy and absolved them of any responsibility for their neighbors or to pitch in to help this country.
Paul Ryan is relentlessly focused on slashing our safety net instead of fixing this economy. If you dare to question Paul Ryan about his cuts to Social Security, you could get tackled and arrested. That happened a few months ago to an elderly constituent and you can watch the video right here.
This situation is out of control! We are seeing uprisings across the country. These are the men and women who educate our children, they built our homes, they built and fix our cars, they make the trains run on time, they deliver your mail and pick up your trash. This mess is not their fault and this effort by Paul Ryan to blame the middle class for this economy is dishonest.
Paul Ryan's philosophy has failed us all. It is time for him to step aside and let me do a better job. The time has come for a change of philosophy and a change of leadership.
I started two small businesses and love that in America we can be entrepreneurs and can create wealth. But this opportunity comes with responsibility. There are rules and because of Republican deregulation, no one was watching to make sure these rules were followed. Now, across the country we have lost trillions of dollars of investments and real estate values have plummeted because people like Paul Ryan thought it was wrong to regulate.
Let's make a statement. Let's make history together. Let's remove Ryan from office and inspire the nation with this victory.
I am working to get our national focus back to how we can help, not how we can cut. Let's remember that we are talking about our neighbors, friends, and families, and they deserve our respect and our support. Our way out of this crisis is to work together and we need a Congress that solves problems, not creates them.
Selfishness has failed us and it is time for a new set of values. Let's start right here and right now.

This guy doesn't stand a chance against Ryan!
If this is the best the Dems can come up with, 2012 is going to be another disappointing year for those on the left!
Is the only thing you guys know how to do lately is play class warfare? I thought we'd hear some proposed solutions from this announcement, but just like every other Democrat - no jobs plan. Typical. So instead, attack your opponent with class warfare.
I'll stand with the guy who's not afraid to put a plan on the table! Until you come up with one that works Rob, I'd suggest saving your money for a rainy day instead trying to run a doomed campaign.
Try again.

"There are rules and because of Republican deregulation, no one was watching to make sure these rules were followed. Now, across the country we have lost trillions of dollars of investments and real estate values have plummeted because people like Paul Ryan thought it was wrong to regulate."
Mr. Zerban:
You painting this as purely a Republican issue is entirely disingenuous, but predictable.
The current broken system is the result of an agreement between the Clinton administration and Republican legislators that set the stage for passage of the most sweeping banking deregulation bill in American history, lifting virtually all restraints on the operation of the giant monopolies which dominate the financial system.
The Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999 did away with restrictions on the integration of banking, insurance and stock trading imposed by the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933. Under the old law, banks, brokerages and insurance companies were effectively barred from entering each others' industries, and investment banking and commercial banking were separated. Not any more. The bill became law in Nov., 1999.

In short, BOTH parties are responsible.
By the way, your article, while criticizing Ryan, make no mention whatsoever about how you plan to fix the economy. Do you have any specific proposals?

Wow. Methinks you've engaged John Heckenlively as your campaign guru. Rob, may I respectfully suggest you put the bong down, THEN take a deep breath. Don't confuse this simple instruction! Others may have cruised on the class warfare thingy, but you are going up a serious nationally renown respected heavyweight in Paul Ryan. The free lunch is over! You are embarrasing yourself by following this path. But whatever. It's a free country. Well, kinda. We've lost a lot of our liberty with Democrats in charge of stuff.

Re-instating taxes on the wealthy would quickly fix the problem. We have lost a lot of tax revenue during the Bush tax cut era due to his starting 2 wars while cutting taxes for the wealthy at the same time. Also, re-instating the laws on Wall Street that were enacted many years ago to keep us from getting into another Depression. The 99% of us that have been adversely effected by the Bush tax cuts & deregulation know we need to get rid of Ryan who doesn't understand what it is like to lose a job due to cost cutting (including those of us with college & advanced degrees), facing terrible discrimination by employers against older people, and losing our 401Ks & homes due to mishandling (gambling) with our retirement funds by so called "financial experts" who continue to pay themselves unearned bonuses with our money.
I am not going to post any more on this topic while the so called (James Hoffa), is probably paid very well by the GOP & Koch Brothers, or is independently wealthy, writes tons of useless copy to make it sound like his view is predominant on the topic. Beware of these GOP "trolls" in other editorial comments, too. It unfortunately cuts attention spans to worthwhile issues by real people who want to communicate with other intelligent people.

"The 99% of us that have been adversely effected by the Bush ...deregulation..."
Bush deregulation?
Robin, the most significant financial regulatory action in the Bush Administration was Sarbanes-Oxley (Sarbox), a law significantly increasing regulation of the accounting and securities businesses.
Contrast it with the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 (CFMA), which officially ensured the deregulation of financial products known as over-the-counter derivatives. It was signed into law on December 21, 2000 by President Bill Clinton.

Paul Ryan's latest job approval ratings hover around 25%, and congress as a whole are at an all-time low of 13%, but by all means, let's keep the bums in and keep giving tax breaks to the wealthy - who never let it "trickle down" unless of course they are urinating down the backs of the middle class.
We have had Mr. Ryan's tax breaks for the wealthy for 10 years now and where are the jobs? And now he also wants to throw everyone under the age of 55 under the bus - I don't think this guy knows what it's like to live paycheck to paycheck.
It is time for some new blood. Adios Mr. Ryan, Hola Mr. Zerban!

@Jason -
Recently in his speeches, Ryan has been pushing to reform the tax code and eliminate all loop-holes so that everyone pays - I thought that would be something that you'd be behind, no? What sitting Democrat is currently doing the same thing – none that I’m aware of!
In his most recent article, which you can find here on Patch, his stated goal is addressing the inequality of opportunity as opposed to the inequality of outcome – it’s great stuff, you should take a look at it if you haven’t already.
Also, I'm not so sure that you understand Ryan's Medicare overall - he's not throwing anyone under a bus. He's trying to save the system before it goes bankrupt.
If your only answer is to raise taxes, I'm not sure how many people are going to get behind you on that one.
Also, you appear to be a big Zerban cheerleader so maybe you'll know - what are his plans to fix the problems we face? So far, I haven't heard anything from him except that he apparently knows how to attack Ryan with Obama and the Democrats class warfare playbook. I don't know about you, but personally, I need a little more substance than that from someone in a governmental leadership position.
Ryan's at least willing to come up with and put plans on the table! And they're not all doom and gloom as your propaganda and rhetoric make them appear to be.
Try researching beyond the liberal blogs – you just may learn something!

I don't know who you are Mr. Zerban but I am willing to give an ear to what plans your have. Here is a starting point (not a complete list by any means but a good start)
- Economic stability
- Keeping government at the minimum it needs to be in our business and paychecks
- Senior Citizens - making sure they have what they rightfully are owed and have earned
- Healthcare reform - are you for or against the Obama healthcare and why? What would you do different?
This was a perfect place for you to lay out a simple outline with some details on your plan vs. Paul Ryan's plan. Why did you fail to do this? I give everyone a fair shake - no matter what party - and that is why I have agreed with a lot that Paul Ryan has done over the years. I haven't seen anyone else who has brought anything better to the table. Show us what you got Mr. Zerban otherwise you are just wasting our time and your money.

If this guy was at all serious, he would have used his announcement to show his substance instead of just attacking Ryan with class warfare according to Obama and the Dems playbook.
I don't know about you, but anyone who has to premise their announcement in making a run for office by talking about someone else (what weak minds do) as opposed to ideas (what great minds do), isn't really gaining my respect all that quickly.
Yeah, Ryan may get his slams in about Obama and the Dems, I’m not denying that, but he ALWAYS follows up with ideas! And he’s not afraid to actually put his ideas out there on the table. Talk is cheap and Ryan has proven that he is at least a man of ideas and action. What have the Dems come up with lately? Obama’s jobs bill is really the best they can do? Wow!
Don't we deserve better in Wisconsin? This is just outrageous, low, and dirty if you ask me! In fact, I feel so dirty after having read the article, I need to go shower - excuse me please!

Paul's ideas are all out there on paper. You don't have to look very hard to find them. You just have to look at them objectively without any predisposed bias.
One thing you may want to look into is Zerban's apparent thinking that he is above Wisconsin's vehicle registration laws and has juiced-in friends in the DA's office that makes such charges go away! Check the link to CCAP I provided above. If Steitz's brushes with the law were news worthy, then wouldn't Zerban's also be newsworthy?

heather, you live in the racine area and if your a home owner, you'll notice that rusd is over 2/3rds of you property tax bills. i really think it is extremely important to explore very deeply the intent of those running for the rusd board. notoriously, voters are well informed on all the other races including village or town boards but almost noone can tell us specifics about the school board races and that race gets very very little news coverage! even though it is the biggest part of our tax bill! the school board should be held as accountable for this even more so then the teachers! management on local levels are also public employees and should be treated the same as their workers have been! there is so much tax money wisted on upper level management that should be watched by the taxpayers!

Rob Zerban's comments were misleading and false information. First of all it was the police that arrested the protester and not Paul Ryan. Using words like "thrown to the ground" missrepresent what may be standard police procedure. It was not Republican deregulation that caused the housing problem, I believe it was created under the Clinton administration and pressured changes in lending policies. Allan Greenspan indicated that he warned the Clinton administration about the housing bubble but there was no appetite in a Democratic administration to address the problem. Mr. Zerban's style of bashing the opposition shows no leadership quality and no reason for me to consider changing my vote. Paul Ryan, through the courage and leadership has at least helped focus the national debate.

Everyone is forgetting who is the leader of this nation (and it isn't Paul Ryan or the Republicans), under who's watch this is all happening. This same POTUS who spends more time out of the country and playing basketball, than bringing about his hope and change.
This POTUS as well as Clinton, had the opportunity to overturn the elimination of Federal Workers collective bargaining rights, that happened under the watch of Carter and the Democrats. But chose not to do so. This all gets lost in the witchhunt of Ryan and other Republicans.
Ron Paul for President
