Elmwood Park Recall Candidate, Resident Files Complaints Against Attorney

A recall candidate is stepping forward, and complaints have been filed against Village Attorney John Shannon.

Friends of the Village of Elmwood Park announced Wednesday that they have a candidate for that village's potential recall.

A member of the group, Nick Haas, has also filed complaints with the Racine County Sheriff to investigate Village President Audrey Viau's "conduct in office." More, Haas filed with the Wisconsin Supreme Court Office of Lawyer Regulation and has sent a complaint to the Wisconsin Bar Association.

According to Haas, Tom Mills has agreed to step forward to run against Viau in the event they collect the 66 necessary signatures. when Haas pulled the petition and necessary paperwork.

As for the complaints regarding Shannon, residents say that as the village's attorney, Shannon is also advising the Heinrich's, owners of the residential property Walmart wants to purchase and rezone to building a new Neighborhood Market grocery store on the site of the old Kohl's building.

"It's clearly a conflict of interest," Haas told Patch last week.
