UPDATE: Beer Dumping Leaves a Bad Taste

Perhaps protesting and activism should be left to those who can remain in control, see the big picture and have more respect for good beer.

Update: Robin Vos issued the following statement, “While I have long been a proponent of free speech, it’s a shame when the expression turns into criminal behavior.  Legislators are regularly harassed by certain protestors and this is an unfortunate reminder of what lawmakers have to put up with every day in Madison.  Hopefully, the protestors will realize this only hurts their cause with the public.”

Original story: Yesterday, Representative Robin Vos (R-Rochester) was doused with a mug of brew by an unhappy constituent. While patronizing a Madison establishment, Inn on the Park, Vos was met with a familiar – but unidentified – citizen who angrily displayed his disappointment with the Republican agenda.

After yelling a few complaints, the man dumped his beer over Vos’s head. The drink also splashed onto two other lawmakers who have yet to be named. Vos has confirmed he was the beer dumping victim but has made no further comments. There was a third party who videotaped the incident.

Vos claims that he recognized the man who has he says has been harassing him since February when the Madison protests become the most heated.

While I am strongly opposed to Vos’ ideals and political views; while I hate what the current administration is doing to our communities – I have to speak up here.

This is NOT the way to get people to listen to our concerns. This is NOT the way to gain the respect and credibility necessary to make real change. These actions are emotional and immature. These actions make all Democrats and Liberals and anyone else fighting against our political landscape look like whiny children!

I am all for protesting and speaking up for what you believe in. I believe the citizens had and have every right to peacefully take action to progress their cause. But when these behaviors are demonstrated like this, it sets us all back.

Dumping beer over the head of an elected representative is also a waste of (presumably) good beer!

Save the drink dumpings for a cheating spouse or reality show housewives.
