The killing of an animal to turn into meat is a celebration.

BTW - If you're a vegetarian - well, even Plants are living when harvested and cells die.

Plants do not have complex feelings and emotions. They do not bond in families or feel pain when cut or sad when their babies are taken away.

And i am fully against the celebration of anyone's death and very very much against the US drone program under the Bush and Obama administration.

Okay, well I guess once one steps "outside the norm", everything still back in "the norm" looks weird. So I'm not sure what your point is, but - whatever.

The human species has been eating meat and hunting and celebrating successful hunts pretty much forever. Most people eat meat. Most commercially available meat is harvested under more inhumane methods than those involved in hunting. There's nothing weird or out-of-the ordinary about hunting, whether you choose to participate, or not. I don't hunt, and yet I don't find anything about it weird. It's quite commonplace, actually. It's not something peculiar to this country, this point in time, Western Civilization, etc. Similarly, there's nothing weird at all about fast food. It's very commonplace as well. Believe it or not, you can actually get a salad at the drive thru.

I know a few vegans. I don't find their choice of diet as weird as I do their insistence on making an issue of it.

Yes, and no. I've had to accept the fact that my cats will still catch and kill rodents even though I feed them well. It's a good skill for them to maintain in case they should ever find themselves on their own. I think it's the same for people. We should be able to feed ourselves without going to a market.

That said, I don't hunt. I have a herd of deer in my back acreage, and I get more enjoyment from watching them go about their lives than I would from eating them. I had some venison for the first time at Thanksgiving -- it was like a cross between beef and lamb. Not bad, but not worth all the hoop-tee-doo.

It's a healthy choice as long as you carefully combine plant proteins and find a source of Vitamin B-12 to supplement. Most people haven't the knowledge to do it. You can't just live on rice and lettuce and stay healthy.

Man is not the only animal that kills for sport. Look it up, in the animal kingdom it's called "surplus killing". Also Chimapanzee's kill little resus(sp?) monkeys for sport and don't even eat them...

We consume the deer harvested for calories. If these deer were not harvested calories would still be needed causing farm animals to be killed. Harvesting a deer is extremely cheaper than going to the grocery store for the same calories.

My 11 lb dog killed a few birds this past summer. He did not consume them. He also chases squirrels and rabbits in an attempt to murder.

Human population is not the same as animal population. Humans are innculated and have programs to feed even the poor. Whitetail Deer do not have immunizations, nor do they have the ability to grow and produce their own food.
Wisconsin's deer herd is being managed very well, with the aid of sportsmen. Not only does it raise revenue, the culling of the herd is not costing you the taxpayer any money.
